Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger

You know we live in a materialistic world when everything we’re fascinated over is of the bigger-better-faster-stronger caliber.

Octomom, Jon & Kate + 8, Million Mile March… everything is about trekking the farthest, have the most children, having the most fans on Facebook, owning the most expensive car, biggest collection of whatchamacallits. Do we ever slow down to ask “well, how was the quality of those collection and activities?”

Rick Hansen and Terry Fox, while their intentions were great and their acts have lived on as a legacy to many, would they be who they are today if they traveled only 100 meters? The argument, of course, is that the length of the journey showed their dedication. In this case, it is true. Their heart was in the right place. However, my point is that they are probably thousands people out there with their heart in the right place. But we don’t know their existence because they didn’t go the extra mile (pardon the pun).

Bigger

Rick Hansen and Terry Fox aside (face it, they were national heroes), this next cretin Kate Gosselin, what.the.? I simply do not understand people’s fascination with her. She is, in the truest sense of the work, a cow! She was a terrible mother, terrible to her husband, a terrible dancer and just plain jane terrible! Why are more and more networks dying to get her on another show? The Bachelorette? Wow! Who would marry that thing after what she did to Jon? She literally tore that man apart. All because she was unwilling to admit she’s got a birthing problem; insisted on having 1 (one) other child; ended up with 6 more; refused to have an abortion knowing that it was an anomaly; refused to work; made her husband support all 8 kids (that he was unwilling to have in the first place) and her; destroyed his self esteem and ruined their marriage; ruined the future for all 8 kids rather than just given a great one to two.

For god sakes, if Kate Gosselin should be on a reality show again, let it be Survivor – Hell edition or Wipe Out. I would actually watch her on Wipe Out.

Longer

Again, the word seniority floats into my mind. I’ve wrote about this topic many times, that in the workplace most prominently, longer != better (that’s a NOT EQUAL sign for you non-programmers).

So in conclusion, lets focus on metrics that actually matter in life.

• Did I make a positive different?
• Did I live life without regret?
• Did I cause anyone unnecessary pain (willingly)?
• How many people have I helped?
• Could I help more people?
• What did I learn today? (from…)
• Is this (tv show, project..etc) contributing to my overall knowledge and intelligence?

Stop living in a self-centered, wasteful, moronic life. Get out and do good and learn!
